We invite you to join with us in our travels through Spain's Al Andalus and to have some fun with these pages in making your own discoveries of this enchanted land, perhaps leading to visits or to rediscovering familiar places through new eyes and information. Some of the places and events in these pages may be familiar to you, but we hope from a slightly different perspective. Others may not be familiar at all, as we do tend to get off the beaten path in our own travels. These pages are not exhaustive of detail and won't satisfy everyone's need for information (although we might be able to point you in the right direction), but we are offering our own extensive personal experiences and, of course, our own preferences.
When we discuss specific places, things, events, etc. it is from our experience of being there. When we recommend restaurants or villas or apartments, it is because we enjoyed our visit and loved the food. Please feel free to return to these pages often as we regularly add new experiences, perspective and information. Also, please bear in mind that this section is new to our website, so you will be watching it grow along with us.
This section highlights special investigations of major festivals, towns, cities and regions. This month's article features the relatively unknown town of Almuñécar, situated on Spain's southern 'Costa Tropical' in a fertile valley nestled between the mountains and the Mediterranean Sea, where the land is so fertile that it produces rare exotic fruits, such as chirimoyas, avocados, and mangos. A paradise that offers us natural beauty, dozens of beaches, coves, cliffs, inlets, tropical plants and colourful flowers.
In these pages we will explore Spain through its various, very distinctive regions, through its more recognizable cities and through its smaller towns and villages scattered throughout this sun-drenched land. We explore a little about their backgrounds, perhaps discover a few points of interest, take a peek at who the people are, their customs and events, as well as a few personal pointers of how to get around, where to eat and where to stay.
We are avid walkers, hikers and birders, liking nothing better than to get out into the countryside for the vistas and wildlife. Spain has a varied and diverse ecology as well as a wonderful and extensive series of Parks, large and small, many of them privately operated.
Located so close to Africa, there are many exotic species of plants and birds, many of them very common. For us, the stork has become our private symbol of welcome for this land we love so much, and it can be seen by the thousands in the delta marshes in and surrounding the Doñana National Park southwest of Sevilla where the Guadalquivir River meets the Atlantic Ocean.
We have visited so many places it's hard to know where to start. We've visited Roman towns and ruins, phoenician salt-fish factories, cathedrals and churches, castles and palaces, markets and bazaars and so many other points of interest, we can't mention them all here.
But we hope to begin revisiting these places in our pages and thus help to illuminate for you some of these amazing sights. Come along as we visit Sevilla's Feria de Abril, as we stand with thousands during Spain's monumental outpouring of devotion during Semana Santa or Easter's Holy Week, as we explore local markets, or attend musical events such as a magical flamenco evening.
From time to time, on a fairly regular basis we will be leading excursions to various locations in Spain and in these pages we will be carrying more information on our itineraries and on how you can join us on our trips. We will be offering fully guided tours of our favourite places; some semi-guided tours with many fascinating side trips available for your participation; and longer-term stays involving side trips and Spanish language lessons.
Here, you will find practical information to assist in finding your way through Spanish time, weather, banks, store hours, attraction admissions and tipping, among other notes of interest, as well as delving into the mysteries of 'tapas' and of 'siestas'. Travel to and from Spain is quite easy and relatively inexpensive, making it realistically accessible to most of us. Within Spain, travel by bus, by rail, and by car is affordable and easy to arrange. We will offer some information, some links to more information, some tips on where we have received the best service, as well as some tips on how to prepare before you leave on your journey. Above all we recommend never forgetting the joys of using your feet to get around most large cities.
There are some places and experiences for us which we enjoyed so much that we simply have to draw your special attention to them. In these pages you will find our favourite restaurants, stores, attractions, services and events. Come and enjoy!

Interested in traveling to this fascinating country?
We have been there many, many times and often on our arrival home, friends, family and customers have asked all the usual questions including where did you go?, what did you see?, did you have fun?, what was the weather like?, and how much did it cost? These and a host of other questions we have attempted to answer in our travel pages. But one last question has inspired our 'tour' pages and that is - would you plan a trip for us if we gave you the details? The suggested tours in this section have been developed in response to these requests. Have fun! We had a lot of fun creating them (we are working on more). To see these tours, please click here.
